Chýbať nesmel biskup z Bellary, J.E. Henry D´Souza, ktorý kostol vysväcoval, dôležitou bola tiež prítomnosť pátra Francisa Serrao, jezuitského provinciálna v Karnatake, no chýbať nesmel ani jubilant, jezuita páter Maximo Rasquinha. Prítomní boli tiež naši zahraniční priatelia, konkrétne pani Sharon Wheatley (Veľká Británia), slečna Lenka (Slovensko), slečna Lali (Veľká Británia)a pani Elisabeth (Nemecko), ako aj ďalší hostia, ktorí spoločne s dedinčanmi doprevádzaný kapelou v procesii prišli ku kostolu. Okolie bolo vyzdobené farebnými plagátmi a bannermi vítajúcimi hostí. Deti aj dospelí, ktorí zapĺňali celý priestor, boli oblečení v pestro-farebnom oblečení.

Biskup a páter Maxim spolu s jedným dievčaťom prestrihli stuhu, čím oficiálne otvorili kostol a celý zástup vstúpil do kostola. Kostol bol vysvätený biskupom v štyroch etapách: najprv stavba, oltár, sochy a nakoniec svätostánok. Sv. omšu koncelebrovalo približne 60 kňazov, pričom hlavným celebrantom bol sám biskupom. Kostol, ktorého základom je osemuholník, vyzeral veľkolepo. Oltár, kazateľňa, a podstavec na Sv. písmo boli vyrobené z bieleho mramoru. Svätostánok so zlatými lúčmi lákal pozornosť ľudí. Rôzne kvety pred oltárom boli umelecky naaranžované rehoľnými sestrami a ich krása chytila za srdce každého. Zbor vytváral príjemnú modlitbovú atmosféru. Posolstvo a odovzdanie bolo hlavným odkazom ceremónie.

Dear friends,
Greetings from Fr. Eric, Pannur Mission.

Thank you for your generous contribution towards the construction of Pannur Church. Many of you have supported this great house of prayer for the poor people of Pannur and surrounding villages. One of the characteristics of this Church is that it unites all people of good will, irrespective of caste, creed and language. Our hope is that in the future this Church will be a source of Peace and Harmony among all people. Let me give you a picture of the entire ceremony.

19th January 2013 was a red letter day in Pannur Mission when a triple celebration took place namely, the blessings and inauguration of the new church, the Diamond Jubilee of Celebration of Fr. Maxim as a Jesuit and the completion of ten years of Jesuit Services in the Pannur Mission.

The stage was set for the arrival of dignitaries especially the Bishop of Bellary, Most Rev. Henry D’Souza, who was to bless the new church. The Bishop along with Fr. Francis Serrao the Provincial of the Jesuits of Karnataka, Fr. Maxim Rasquinha the Jubilarian, and our friends from oversees, namely Mrs. Sharon Wheatley (Great Britain), Ms. Lenka (Slovakia), Ms. Lali (Great Britain), Mrs. Elisabeth (Germany) and other guests were received and taken in procession to the accompaniment of band and music to the site of the Church. The entire place was decked with colourful shamiana and banners welcoming the guests. Children and grown-ups in colourful dress filled the area.

The Bishop, Fr. Maxim and a little girl together cut the ribbon for the inauguration of the Church and the entire gathering entered and filled the Church. The Church was blessed by the Bishop in four stages- the building, the altar, the statue stands and the tabernacle. There were around 60 priests at the con-celebration with the Bishop as the main celebrant. The Church looked magnificent in its structure in an octagonal shape. The altar, the ambo, the stand for the bible and the announcement stand were neatly set with white marble. The tabernacle with its golden rays was the focus of attraction. The variety of rich flowers in front of the altar artistically arranged by the Sisters of Tarbes captured the hearts of one and all. The choir lent itself a prayerful atmosphere. The entire religious programme was rich in devotion and message.

Then, the second part of the programme followed - the felicitation ceremony. The VIPs were brought to the stage and were honoured with peta (Indian Turban), shawl and garland. Among those specially honoured were the Bishop, the Provincial of Karnataka Jesuit Province, the Jubilarian Fr. Maxim, our friends from overseas and local leaders. An address by the Parish Priest and the parishioners of Pannur was read out as a tribute to the Jubilarian. There were speeches by the VIPs.

The last part of the programme was a sumptuous meal to all the people at the Kapepaladi School campus. The entire programme was planned out and successfully and meticulously carried out by the Sisters, our students, our friends, people of Pannur and Jesuits of Pannur Mission. It was a memorable event in the history of Pannur Mission.

Thank you once again for all your support.

With love,

Yours Sincerely,
Fr. Eric Mathias SJ
